Healthy eats @ Panache cafe

On Mill Street, just off St George’s terrace in the Perth CBD, you’ll find the healthy haven, Panache Cafe. If you’re in a hurry and want a healthy, takeaway breakfast Panache is the way to go. A favourite is the chia pudding with almonds, natural yogurt and blueberries. The chia doesn’t have much flavour by itself, but as a soaked pudding develops a lovely creamy texture that just needs the yogurt and the sweetness of the blueberry to set it off. A great contrast to the crunch of the almonds, and a pretty awesome breakfast, especially for $6.90! Or for lunch how about a raw coconut wrap with a healthy ice coffee. Yes that’s right a healthy ice coffee, made with almond milk, organic maca powder, espresso, vanilla bean and stevia all blended with ice. It doesn’t taste like your conventional ice coffee, but it still has that coffee hit with all that extra goodness. The raw coconut wrap is something else again. There’s something strange about eating a wrap made of coconut, and though …

Raw by Chris Chocolate Cups

Could it be? The Raw by Chris chocolate cups that sold out of cafes on their first weekend? Why yes, yes they are! Lucky for me the lovely Chris hand delivered mine, and don’t they look a treat! Pecan Praline Crunch The first cup I tried was the pecan, praline crunch. The name doesn’t lie, the moment you bite down there’s a delightful cracking sound as the hard chocolate shell gives way to gooey raw caramel. The chocolate itself isn’t sweet but the filling more then makes up for it. This isn’t a fudgey chocolate, like a brownie or chocolate balls. It’s more like dark chocolate, not sweet, just a cocoa hit. My favourite part of this cup was the crispy bits of praline throughout, a really pleasant texture to the mix. A lovely pick me up when the afternoon slump hits! Macadamia Vanilla Crunch with Cacao Nibs Next up, the angelic macadamia vanilla crunch with cacao nibs. This treat definitely felt the most naughty of the three. It was incredibly creamy, melted in your …

The rrRaw by Chris, Raw Basket!

Sometimes the timing is just perfect, and in the case of a back injury the delivery of a rrRaw by Chris basket filled with delicious goodies to your bedside is nothing less then divine intervention. Okay so maybe I got lucky that I ordered it before I hurt my back, but I’d rather just think of it as my little miracle. Now where was I? Oh yes the raw basket, so it’s taken me a while thanks to my aforementioned injury to write the review (sorry Chris!) but here goes. I love it, I love it, I love it! I love that it comes to my door, I love that I suddenly have a bunch of amazing healthy things to have with my breakfast, I love the variety and all the adorable jars (so that one isn’t food related, but they really are great jars). Coconut Vanilla Chia Pudding The first thing I sunk my teeth into was the vanilla chia pudding with stone fruit. I absolutely loved the creamy texture and the pudding was …

Health Freak Subiaco

With the green smoothie, raw food, low carb, high protein eating health surge becoming increasingly apart of mainstream culture it isn’t surprising that cafés like health freak have popped up to meet demand. As someone who is usually eating healthily and going to the gym, going out for breakfast is generally a treat, and an infrequent chance to eat whatever takes my fancy. That being said, it doesn’t have to be, there’s some fantastic things about cafe culture, eating out with friends, a good coffee, the feeling of rewarding yourself after a workout, without the calories. There’s also something great about being able to have healthy green or protein smoothie while out, especially since there’s no need to clean up after! Health freak cafe is perfect to do all these things. In a fantastic spot in subi you’ll find it offering a mix of raw, vegetarian, high protein, gluten free and low carb food. No longer does eating out have to be calorific, or your choices drastically limited by dietary needs like vegetarianism or coeliac. …

Solomon’s Organic Breakfast

If you have been reading recent posts you may have noticed a trend developing, or maybe better word is fascination with, the various food and drink available around Beaufort Street Mount Lawley. This time we were at Solomon’s, an awesome little organic cafe across from the Beaufort Street merchant and on the same side as Mary Street (ahhh Mary Street Bakery, I’m still dreaming of your salted caramel tart…). Solomon’s has a quirky and alternative vibe, and we were impressed by the interesting menu options. It took us far too long to order because we quite simply couldn’t make up our minds. The meat-eater who came with me happily got a ginger smoothie and a full vegan breakfast, while I eventually opted for beetroot crepes and a banana, chia and cacao smoothie. We also got coffee, because mornings don’t start until coffee has been drunk. The smoothies arrived in a mason jar with a cute retro straw, and as much as presentation doesn’t make it taste any better, it certainly puts you in a positive frame …

Heavenly Halo Espresso

Halo Espresso is our local, we love their coffees, weekend breakfasts and now their fanastic selection of raw treats! The raw food movement seems to have popped up in Cafe’s everywhere lately, in a nutshell raw food is about eating raw food in an unprocessed state. The food is not heated or cooked in order to preserve it’s nutritional value and it is usually vegan. I don’t claim to be a raw foodie, but I do enjoy having the option for a healthy and delicious treat, and the sheer popularity of the range at Halo suggested there’s plenty of others who do to. So what exactly do these treats entail? I’ve tried a selection, most raw desserts involve the use of nuts and dates, coconut, coconut oil and cacao, as well as other ingredients like them, to mimic what you’d generally find in a cafe display. What you can see below is the Rawsome caRAWmel slice. The slice is chocolate-y, gooey and delicious. The base is nutty, with a date caramel layer, and chocolate and walnut …
